At Fledge, working with young people is not about delivering content and moving on. It is about teaching with care, mentoring with consistency, and working alongside schools and services so that learners who need extra support can re-engage and move forward.
We are actively looking for trained teachers and experienced mentors who want to support vulnerable learners, often those educated outside of mainstream settings or at risk of disengagement. This includes young people in alternative provision, PRU, secure settings, hospital education pathways, and learners with SEND or SEMH needs who require a calm, relational approach.
Who we are looking for
We want qualified teachers who can deliver high-quality subject teaching in a way that is flexible and responsive. We also want experienced mentors who can support re-engagement, routines, attendance barriers, motivation and reintegration planning.
We are particularly interested in people with backgrounds such as PRU, alternative provision, pastoral leadership, behaviour and attendance teams, SEND and SEMH provision, youth work, or mentoring roles that involve building trust with learners who may be anxious, disengaged, or out of school.
This is not just tutoring. It is teaching and mentoring designed to create long-term change.
Why teachers and mentors choose Fledge
Many teachers and mentors join us because they want to focus on the individual again. They want to use their experience where it makes the greatest difference. They want to work in partnership with schools and local authorities, while being part of a team that takes safeguarding seriously and provides strong wraparound support.
In practice, your work might involve helping a learner rebuild confidence in Maths, English or Science. It might involve mentoring a student who is struggling to attend. It might involve supporting reintegration by helping a young person build a routine, practise consistency, and gradually develop readiness to return to education.
You are not working alone
Behind every teacher and mentor is a wider team. Our safeguarding function, relationship managers, quality assurance processes and operational support ensure you are protected, guided and well supported. We handle the coordination so you can focus on the learner and on delivering the best possible sessions.
We match staff to students carefully. We consider personality, communication style, pace, and setting experience. This is especially important for learners with SEND or SEMH needs, for students experiencing anxiety, or for young people with previously disrupted education who need stability before they can engage.
Safeguarding is lived, not just written
Every teacher and mentor undergoes enhanced DBS checks, safeguarding training and a rigorous onboarding process. But beyond that, we expect safeguarding to show up in daily practice, in how you notice change, how you respond, and how you communicate with the wider support network.
